Level 2: Tracing (colour)(noun)

Teaching Objectives

  • Learn how to spell colour words e.g. red, blue, yellow

  • Expand language by describing (colour)(noun) e.g. green car

  • Improve handwriting

How to use

  • Level 1: Read each word aloud and spell each letter with your child. Trace the words to learn each colour and its spelling

  • Level 2: Trace each (colour)(noun) to teach your child how to describe items based on colour. If your child can read, cover the words on the right and ask your child “tell me about this”

  • Level 3: Have your child label each colour and emphasize on the first sound of the word. Fill in the blank with the correct first letter

  • Level 4: Write out each colour word. Use pages from level 1 as a visual prompt whenever necessary

Level 3: Filling in first letter of colour words

Teaching tips

  • Colours are all around us! Make learning colours fun by playing “I spy” e.g. “I spy something blue”

  • Describe different things of different colours everywhere you go e.g. “Look at that red car!”

  • Use magnetic letters or alphabet manipulatives to form and spell colour words

  • Paint with your child and explore how mixing colours can form different colours!
