Updated: Oct 27, 2022

What is it

Tracing and writing worksheets

Learning by practising tracing and writing

  • Writing activity to learn spelling and identifying things at the playground

  • Tracing (prompted with dotted words)

Teaching Objectives

  • Developing pencil grip

  • Learning to trace and write with lines provided

  • Learning to spell

How to use

  • Guide your child to look at the pictures and label them one by one

  • Encourage your child to read the word before tracing

  • Recite each letter as your child is tracing it

  • Prompt your child to read the word again after writing

Teaching tips

  • Start with the tracing worksheet first if they are unfamiliar with the label and move on to writing when they are more fluent

  • If needed, prompt your child by using a hand over hand prompt to trace and slowly reduce the hand holding pressure to reduce assistance

  • Use a thick or triangular pencil to help your child hold the pencil with a tripod grip

Embed more learning opportunities

  • Spelling - Use 3D alphabets to spell out each word to make spelling more fun and hands on

  • Expressive language - What does this say?
