Money skills (notes and coins)





What is it

A set of worksheets introducing the different local notes and coins that children can come across. Inclusive of the varying ways to teach children how to identify and label the different notes and coins - matching, circling, even simple addition (with pictures for visual prompt). Through the exposure may the children be more aware of the notes and coins as well as its respective values.


Teaching Objectives

  • Identify the different notes and coins

  • Matching - picture to picture or picture to word

  • Practice counting skills

  • Learn to read and follow instructions (circle, colour, etc)

  • Practice tracing and writing skills

  • Practice fine motor skills such as pencil grip through circling and colouring

  • Practice scanning and tracking via matching worksheets




How to use

  • Preface with your child regarding the topic of the worksheet.

  • Read the instructions aloud with your child

  • Use the prompts provided to teach and let your child understand what is required for them to do

  • Begin with the pages with prompts and proceed to the pages without prompts allowing your child to attempt independently

     

Teaching tips


  • Use real-life notes and coins to practice comparison (e.g. size, weight, colour) with your kids for better understanding and generalization.

  • Pair your worksheets with these videos to make the lesson more enjoyable for your child

Embed more learning opportunities

  • Receptive language – Ask your child to point to a picture (e.g. “Point to the five dollars”; “Point to the cent sign”)

  • Expressive language – Point to a picture and ask “What is this? or “How much is this?”
